Ashley and Erin have a rocky relationship. Months after having a baby, Ashley found out Erin was texting and pursuing other women. She was furious when she found a note on her neighbor’s car from Erin. He wanted the woman to call him, so Ashley went to get a divorce.
Dr Phil: Consequences Of an Open Marriage
Ashley and Erin made a really dumb decision to open their marriage, said Dr Phil.
Ashley and Erin decided to go to counseling and then pursue an open marriage. They made a deal not to make these emotional relationships, just to fulfill their needs. Ashley found someone she connected with and had a fun time. Erin wanted to close the marriage again and Ashley continued her affair for two months. Erin found her journal and realized what was going on.
Now Erin said he is in a deep depression. He moved out and moved two doors down to live with his mother. He tries to move back in every few weeks to see if the marriage will work. Things go to the bedroom and then they fall apart again. He said the final straw was when they had to get a paternity test for their second child.
Dr Phil: Stupid Marriage Decisions
Dr Phil wants them to acknowledge that the open marriage was a horrible idea. Erin said it was a favor to Ashley because he has many needs and she can’t meet them all with her schedule.
Erin’s feelings were hurt by Ashley’s cheating. They don’t know who suggested the open marriage, but they think it was each other. Erin was the first one to cheat and he cheated seven times. Ashley had two affairs after their open marriage ended. I’m not sure who was stupider.
“It’s really hard to take back stupid,” Dr Phil said. He wasn’t afraid to yell at them and tell them that it was stupid to go into an open marriage. You go, Dr Phil.
