Dr. Phil: Alcoholic Mother Can’t Control Pregnant Teen
Dr. Phil has been trying to understand the motivations of an out of control pregnant teenager named Sara. Sara smokes cigarettes and marijuana and has admitted to doing cocaine, crack, and heroin while pregnant. Now it comes to light that this all may be part of a vicious cycle.

Kristen said she wasn’t there for her children when they were young. She was drinking six to nine beers a night. Sara said she had her first beer when she was a toddler because her mom would leave them lying around.
“I feel responsible for not giving them a more secure childhood that caused them to have to make the decisions that they do now,” Kristen said.
Dr. Phil noted that there was an ongoing legacy in this family regarding substance abuse. Kristen was an alcoholic and Sara is a drug addict and her baby will probably be born addicted. Kristen said that Sara was pulling her own hair out when she was two and trying to jump out windows when she was five. Dr. Phil told Kristen that you reap what you sow. Because of Kristen’s lack of attention and her alcohol abuse, both her daughters are now drug addicts.
Dr. Phil: Pregnant Teenager Abusing Drugs
Sara claimed to Dr. Phil that except for doing cocaine and marijuana with her older sister Sadie the night before, she’d been clean for months. When Dr. Phil asked her why she refused to take a drug test that morning, she got upset and said she needed a break. Then she walked offstage.
Dr. Phil: Two Out Of Control Teens
It turns out that 18-year-old Sara has been highly influenced by her older sister Sadie, who is also a drug addict and encourages bad behavior. Kristen said she didn’t even notice Sadie had become a drug addict because she was so focused on Sara. Sadie said she was a full blown addict by the time she was 17.
Sadie started dating a man named Keith six months ago. Keith didn’t know she was an addict. When Sadie moved in, she became basically a stay at home mom for Keith’s kid. She would care for his daughter when she was high on heroin. She would steal money from Keith. She would take his debit card and take hundreds of dollars a week. She took at least $1,000 out of his pocket when he was sleeping. Then she’d go with Sara to buy drugs.
Keith would lock Sadie in the house with padlocks to keep her from buying drugs. Sadie said that this helped her stop doing drugs for close to two months. Until, of course, she did cocaine and smoked marijuana with Sara the night before this filming of Dr. Phil.
Dr. Phil: Change of Custody?
Sara said that she knows she should give up drugs, but it’s very hard for her. She said she’s willing to give up custody of the child to her mother until she can get clean.
