Dr. Phil: Younger Woman Walks Off Stage

Dr. Phil has been sitting down with a couple with a 26 year age difference. After doing what can only be describing as bullying the younger woman, 24-year-old Ashley, telling her a lot of things that to me felt needlessly aggressive for no reason, Ashley came back and Dr. Phil explained his actions.

Dr. Phil: Establishing A Safe Place

I think it’s important in a real therapy session to establish a safe place for both of the people involved, something Dr. Phil failed to do initially. Without apologizing or backing down from his initial statements, Dr. Phil re-framed them when Ashley came back out, pretending that the whole time he was on Ashley’s side, when he clearly wasn’t earlier.

But he did at least re-establish a safe place for Ashley, agreeing with her that Dean, the 50-year-old, had behavior that was just as destructive and maybe even more destructive than Ashley’s had been. Dr. Phil also said he didn’t want Ashley and Dean’s three-year-old daughter to have parents that failed them, causing her to go into the foster system that Ashley had been raised in. Ashley and Dr. Phil eventually did agree that they wanted the daughter to grow up better than Ashley or Dean.

Dr. Phil: Older Man’s Ex-Wife Speaks Out

Speaking of Dean’s destructive behavior, which is what I think this episode should really have been about since the very beginning, his age appropriate ex-wife Jody added her two cents into what was happening.

Jody said that Ashley and Dean’s relationship was out of control and was the furthest thing from a positive relationship.

“One minute it’s happy-go-lucky and the next minute, within seconds, it’s just dangerous,” she said.

She added that it affects their families and Jody’s children with Dean. Jody said the only reason she was talking to Dr. Phil was because of her children and because Kayden, Dean and Ashley’s three-year-old daughter, is often with Jody and her aunts. So Jody takes care of their daughter when something happens.

Jody said she was married to Dean for 22 years and Dean is acting completely different than he used to. Jody said that in general, her and Dean have always been civil to each other and she’d never seen the behavior Dean is exhibiting now with her, especially the violence.

Dean’s 20-year-old daughter Morgan said that Dean has changed a lot since meeting Ashley. She said he wasn’t the same person he was when she was growing up. She said the drama and alcohol was to blame.

Morgan also said when she first met Ashley, she was 15 and Ashley was 18 and she was really confused why her dad was hanging out with an 18-year-old. So are we all in agreement that Dean is a super-creep?
