Dr. Phil: Why Did She Take A Break?
Dr. Phil has been sitting down with a mother named Dee and her daughter Lacey, who admits that her life is out of control. Lacey abuses drugs, lives a wild lifestyle, and has had a number of very traumatic experiences in her life. After asking to take a bathroom break and walking offstage, Lacey returned to Dr. Phil’s set. She said she was feeling bullied before and betrayed.
Dr. Phil talked to Lacey about why she took a break and heard from Lacey’s sister Devin. Will Lacey agree to get help? (Guzel Studio / Shutterstock.com)
Betrayal was coming up a lot in this episode. Dr. Phil said he would turn the floor over to her, then, and let her decided what they should talk about.
“I’m 20 years old. I’ve been living on my own since I was 16. I’ve never had the ability to like, go home, you know? Which must people have that. I don’t have that security of home. So that’s a stressor for me,” she said.
Dr. Phil said that he thought she was feeling like her mother was badgering her all the time to the point of Lacey exploding and looking crazy and what we’re seeing is the crazy, not the badgering. Lacey said that was exactly how she was feeling.
“See? I am paying attention,” Dr. Phil said.
Dr. Phil: Lacking The Support Of Her Sister
Lacey’s sister Devin says she doesn’t want Lacey around her children unsupervised. She said that Lacey does drugs and that she’s worried Lacey might “fly off the handle”. She doesn’t want her five-year-old son exposed to that.
Devin did say she wanted Lacey to get help so they can be a family again. But Lacey said she’s tried calling her many times and she hasn’t answered. Devin said that was because she never knew what was going to happen with Lacey. Lacey said she’s lacked a support system and she hasn’t felt like she had Devin’s support in a long time.
Dr. Phil: Products Of Our Environments
Dr. Phil said that we are products of our environments. If we’re taught early on about violence and chaos, we tend to live violent and chaotic lives. If we’re taught that our value lies in our body, we tend to live lives along those lines. Such is the case with Lacey, whose out of control behavior is in part due to where her mother placed value when she was growing up. He also said that the abuse and assaults that Lacey has been exposed to throughout her life has devalued her in her own eyes and there’s no way it wouldn’t.
“You’ve had terrible life experiences and I’m really sorry for that. You didn’t deserve that,” he said.
Dr. Phil said that Lacey’s self-esteem is damaged and that she’s self-medicating. But he says she needed help with fixing that and that she had family that didn’t know how to empower her.
“At this point, you are at high risk for turning up dead, either killed by someone else’s hand or your own,” Dr. Phil said.
Dr. Phil offered Lacey treatment to help her deal with the trauma that she’s suffered and to get off the drugs. She accepted.
