Dr Phil: Donald Sterling Bipolar?
V. Stiviano said that she sometimes referred to his outbursts as “bipolar moments,” in which he would “say certain things that were absurd, things that were mean, things that were just out of the norm.”
She told Dr Phil that she would play the tapes back to Sterling to help him understand his self-perception. Dr Phil pointed out that the context of the conversation seemed personal. Stiviano said that he always knew that he was being recorded.
“The purpose of us recording was for him to learn things about himself,” she said, because he would not realize the things he was saying until she played them back for him.
Dr Phil: Did Sterling Know He Was Being Recorded?
Dr Phil wanted to be clear about whether she had permission to record his racist rant. She insisted that he did know, something he refuted in his Anderson Cooper interview on CNN. Stiviano claimed that this is one of the many things he has been lying about.
Sterling talked on one of the tapes about how painful it was to talk to her about racism. “You’re in love with me,” she said at one point in the conversation, as she pointed out that she is half black. “You want me to have hate towards black people?” she asked. “I want you to love them privately,” Sterling said.
V. Stiviano explained to Dr Phil that “he’s in love with me as a person. He’s in love with me as a human being.” Dr Phil said that this did not sound like the typical employer-employee relationship. Stiviano told Dr Phil that everything sounds one way on the tape, but she was on the show to set the record straight.
