Dr Phil continued his interview with Ronaiah Tuiasosopo about the Manti Te’O hoax he perpetrated through the fictional character of girlfriend Lennay Kekua. Why did Ronaiah bring things to an end?

Dr Phil: Lennay Kekua Leukemia

Ronaiah said that the couple broke up many different times, but they always found themselves coming back together. “I wanted to end it because, after everything I have gone through, I finally realized that I just had to move on with my life,” he said.

He said that he needed to start living life as Ronaiah and let Lennay disappear. He killed her off, claiming that she succumbed to her leukemia. But Dr Phil wondered why he called back to say that she survived.

Dr Phil: Manti Te’O Hoax Confession

Ronaiah’s excuse for that was that he wanted the full truth to be known. He had decided to come clean and tell Manti Te’O the truth. He said he felt better “in a way” when he came out with the truth. “I got a chance to call him” and admit the truth, Ronaiah told Dr Phil.

Dr Phil talked about the concept of Catfish and relationships. But he said that a typical catfish will never come clean or set the record straight. Why did Ronaiah feel the need to get a clean slate?

“As a person, I just felt like, in my own life, before I could do anything or go any further, I had to come clean,” Ronaiah said.

Did Manti Te’O know about any of what was going on with Ronaiah on Lennay’s side of the relationship? According to Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, he never thought Manti Te’O had any idea abotu the truth.

Lennay Kekua experienced a car accident, a cancer diagnosis, and even a coma over the months of their relationship. So why did Ronaiah kill off Lennay when Manti Te’O was already in mourning?

Ronaiah was raised by his grandmother, so Dr Phil wondered why he would further torment someone who was suffering so much? Ronaiah said that Lennay and Manti had broken up before his grandmother’s death.

Lennay confronted Manti Te’O about her suspicion that Manti was using Skype to chat with other women. But that is when Lennay learned that Manti’s grandmother died.

Manti pushed away from Lennay and admitted he had been talking to other girls. Ronaiah felt that Manti would be OK without him, and had been told that Manti did not need Lennay anymore.

Ronaiah admitted that he was hurt by Manti Te’O’s harsh words to Lennay. That was when the emotional toll really took him over. That is when he decided to kill off Lennay. Days later, Ronaiah reached out in the fictional persona of Lennay’s brother to see how Manti Te’O was dealing with Lennay’s fictional death.
