Dr Phil: Manti Te’O Girlfriend Voice
The twists and turns kept coming as the Manti Te’O fake girlfriend hoax unraveled. In a voicemail released in the media, it definitely sounds like a woman’s voice on the phone with Manti. Were there possibly more conspirators involved in this hoax, beyond Ronaiah Tuiasosopo?
Dr Phil said that there are some questions about whether it is actually Ronaiah’s voice on the messages that have been in the news. He gave Ronaiah the chance to address this speculation about the voicemails.
Dr Phil: Manti Te’O Voicemails
Dr Phil pressed confessed scam artist Ronaiah Tuiasosopo about the Manti Te’O girlfriend voice he supposedly created on the phone and in voicemails.
Ronaiah told Dr Phil that he made his phone calls alone, with no one else in the room. To prove it, Dr Phil asked him to speak in the voice of Lennay, to help put this controversy to rest. “I can’t, even if I tried,” he said, insisting he cannot perform it on command. “Even if I try, it doesn’t come out right.”
However, Dr Phil got in touch with contractors that work with the FBI and the US Secret Service. They compared the voicemail to a recording of Ronaiah’s voice. The results were conclusive: the voices were a 16% match, meaning that it is highly improbable the voice on the phone was Ronaiah.
Dr Phil: Ronaiah Tuiasosopo Liar?
Dr Phil confronted him about this disparity, since Ronaiah insisted that he has told the complete truth. He said he has only done the voice in a dark room with no one else around. But Dr Phil pressed on, insisting that he was after the truth.
Apparently, Ronaiah lied to Dr Phil during the interview negotiations, claiming he had watched the show before. But he fessed up later on, and insisted that he was being honest about every aspect of this relationship.

What was the deal with those voicemails, and why was Ronaiah so reluctant to prove the voice was actually his. After an off-camera discussion, Ronaiah agreed to go behind a privacy screen to recreate the voicemails you may have heard in the news.
But we will have to wait for part two of the interview to find out what happened when Ronaiah did the voice, and what happened when the voice was analyzed.
