Dr Phil: Simi Valley California Heroin Epidemic
Simi Valley, California used to be one of the safest communities in the country. Now they have a growing heroin epidemic, but they are not alone. Communities all over America are facing heroin problems and that is why Dr. Phil is doing a special. He’s talking to the residents of Simi Valley and the teens that are in the middle of the heroin problems.
Dr Phil: Teens & Heroin
The teens of Simi Valley know there is a drug problem in their city. Those that tried heroin started young as a way to escape and have fun. They realized that the drug would take away their problems, so they increased their use. After they found that the drugs only made the problems worse did they stop using. They all know friends who have died from heroin.
Dr. Phil’s point is that this could be any town in the U.S. It’s important to raise awareness, so Dr. Phil hosted a scared straight talk on his show to influence teens.
Dr Phil: Nik’s Heroin Addiction
Nik, 20, is addicted to heroin. He was arrested for possession at 17 and told his parents he had been doing it since he was 13. He’s been kicked out of seven schools and labeled as a terrorist for bringing an M-16 and grenades to school. He’s been arrested over 30 times. Nik knows that jail or death are in his future – unless Dr. Phil can help him.
His parents have had enough and are coming to Dr. Phil for help. Mary sees potential in her son, but also visions his funeral. Greg is tired of Nik’s problems and wants Dr. Phil to help his family.
Dr Phil: Steven’s Heroin Addiction
Linda and Richard’s son Steven’s heroin addiction has destroyed their family. He’s stollen family jewelry and heirlooms to pay for drugs. His parents have been enabling him all along. His mother is afraid Steven will die, but Steven feels invincible with heroin.
Dr. Phil told both families that they need to be strong and a solution to the problem. He can’t help them if they waver.
