Dr Phil: Michelle Knight Notebooks
While she was trapped in captivity by Ariel Castro, survivor Michelle Knight managed to keep a journal even during some dark times. She has been free for a year after escaping with two fellow prisoners, and is pursuing her dream of culinary school. Knight gave Dr Phil an update on her life.
Knight shared some of her thoughts and memories from the notebooks she kept in the house, including song lyrics and poems. “All the stolen moments will haunt you for eternity,” she said of her captor in the journals. She also predicted that she would overcome the torment and life her life with her head held high, while Castro’s life would end. Her beliefs ended up coming true.

Dr Phil wondered what happened when Ariel Castro found the things that she had written about him. “He got furious. He got very angry,” she said, recalling that he burned one of her notebooks on the stove in front of her.
In the audience were some people who were very moved by Michelle’s initial interview in fall 2013. One woman said it brought back emotions and feelings that she suppressed after being abducted along with her young son at the age of 21.
Later, she was rescued by her family, but they never talked about the experience and she did not have the chance to process her story. Kim was in the audience, and she was still emotional 30 years after her own ordeal.

“I want to be free too,” Kim said after being inspired by Michelle’s story. “She took her first step,” Michelle noted to Dr Phil.
Another viewer, Marilee, said she was “moved by her strength, her will to live, her ability to handle things most people simply could not. I would have given up.” She wanted to know how Michelle passed the time for 11 years.
Dr Phil: Michelle Knight “My Heart Will Go On”
Michelle said she sang to herself, and one of the songs that got her through was “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion, who currently performs in Las Vegas at Caesar’s Palace. Through tears, Knight sang along with the video.
Dr Phil surprised Michelle Knight with a trip to Las Vegas to see Celine’s Las Vegas show and meet her one-on-one backstage. That sounds like a great reward for her.

She dedicated that performance of “My Heart Will Go On” to Michelle. “It helped me from killing myself when my heart wanted to let go,” Knight told Dion.
