Dr Phil: Preventing Domestic Violence
Dr Phil said that nearly 100 women are abused by their partners every hour. Dr Phil and his wife, Robin McGraw, have been working to help empower people to end domestic violence. You may have heard about her Aspire Initiative, an educational tool for all ages. But there’s more: the Aspire News App and other tools are at your disposal.

A mom sent a video to the show to thank Robin for creating the Aspire News App. She said that she was a domestic abuse victim for 17 years. This resource could change lives, she said. It allows you to capture abuse in an audio recording.
A daughter said that you can hit any page in the app three times, which will send an emergency SOS signal to your specified emergency contacts. That could come in handy, and it can also send the audio recording to another person.
“The Aspire app is going to save women’s lives,” this mother said.
Dr Phil: Aspire App Go Button
Robin McGraw told Dr Phil that it is very rewarding to see that people are able to benefit from these resources. The Aspire News app is designed to look like a regular app on your phone, but it has a Go button that can alert your friends so that they can interrupt the abuse.
“It sends out these messages automatically,” Dr Phil said. Robin said you can have the message sent to multiple recipients. It also records what is happening in the room, without alerting anyone else in the room.
This could be helpful if you need evidence of the abuse when you are seeking assistance from law enforcement authorities. You can get the app and learn more from Robin McGraw’s foundation, When Georgia Smiled.
Dr Phil: Verizon Wireless & When Georgia Smiled
Dr Phil announced that Verizon Wireless is partnering with When Georgia Smiled to host an event in fall 2014. After a successful summit in 2013, nationwide leaders in the field of domestic violence prevention will convene on Dr Phil’s stage to exchange ideas.
Jay Jaffin, a vice president from Verizon Wireless joined Dr Phil and Robin on the stage to chat about this project. He said that breaking the silence is an important aspect of the fight to end domestic violence.
Dr Phil: Verizon Hopeline
What else has Verizon done to give back? Jaffin said that the company’s goals are education about domestic violence and its early signs, as well as empowerment through programs such as Hopeline.
Verizon Hopeline began in 2001, and the program collects used phones, which are either turned into cash grants for support organizations or provided to victims and families who need help escaping a dangerous situation.
Dr Phil: Robin McGraw Revelation Lip Gloss
Robin McGraw created the Revelation beauty line, including a line of lip gloss called AveryLasting Love, named for their granddaughter. It includes a lip gloss named for the couple’s daughter-in-law, Erica. 100% of the profits are donated to When Georgia Smiled, and those funds go directly to those who need help.
