Dr Phil: Jasmine Coping With Post-Traumatic Stress
After being shot in the summer 2013 Aurora, Colorado theater shooting, Jasmine is still reeling. She told Dr Phil that she relives the event daily. Jasmine’s fiancé Austin doesn’t understand her pain. She doesn’t want to do the things she did before and she fears that the shooting could happen again.
Dr Phil said that Jasmine could be suffering post-traumatic stress disorder. This means she could have the same reaction to the shooting today as she did the day it happened. This is why she hasn’t been able to cope and move on from her tragedy. Dr Phil told her that time heals nothing, it’s what you do with the time. She needs to see professional help from her trauma.
Signs of post-traumatic stress disorder include nightmares, reliving the event, avoiding triggers and the stimuli, anxiety and impairment to social and occupational situations.
