Dr Phil: Troubled Teen Sets Fires, Calls in Bomb Threats
Troubled teen Brayton is angry that his biological father doesn’t acknowledge him. Dr Phil calls for a paternity test to end the fight over Brayton’s dad.
Brayton is a troubled teen in every sense of the term. His mom Kim said that he’s been getting in trouble with the law and schools for his entire life. She’s stolen from stores, broken into buildings, been arrested and smoked marijuana.
“You name it, he’s done it,” she said. Brayton is even mean to his mother and steals money, jewelry, and prescription medication from her.
Brayton believes his mom is blowing things out of proportion. He said that he’s “snapped” a few times. “Snapped” includes setting a fire at school and getting expelled. He was grounded for a month, but said, “It wasn’t like I set the entire school on fire.”
The biggest offense on Brayton’s long record is calling a bomb threat into the school. He was arrested and placed in juvenile detention. Kim believes that if Brayton doesn’t change, he will end up homeless or dead. Her punishments just fall on deaf ears.
Dr Phil: Where is Brayton’s Biological Father?
Kim thinks that Brayton’s behavior would improve if his father was in the picture. Brayton’s father moved out of state after finding out that Kim was pregnant. They only slept together once. Since his birth, Brayton has been cast aside by his father. Even when Brayton almost died from a hereditary kidney disease, Brayton’s father denied that Brayton was his son.
Kim filed for child support with the state and they began to take it from his income tax returns and he didn’t contest it. Kim then found him on Facebook and once again Brayton’s father refused to help or meet him. He unfriended Kim after some unkind words were exchanged.
Now, Doug, the man who Kim says in Brayton’s father is ready to know if he has a son. He said that if Brayton isn’t his son, he wants to be reimbursed for the money he’s spent.

Brayton was prickly with his alleged father. He didn’t think that his excuses were good enough. Dr Phil revealed that Doug is in fact Brayton’s biological father. Even though Brayton smiled to know that Doug is his father, they still don’t know each other and he has been denied his entire life.
Dr Phil suggested that Doug take the time to get to know his son, one on one. Let Brayton talk and just listen. It’s time for Brayton to decide if he wants to know Doug, not the other way around.
