Dr Phil and the parents of addicts, the Violent Twins, decided to send the boys to a treatment program. They’re back to talk about therapy & making changes.
Dr Phil: The Violent Twins Return
Back in August, Dr Phil spoke with the family of identical twins Drew and Dallas. Drew and Dallas were dubbed “The Violent Twins” for obvious reasons. They both smoked pot, were destructive and have extreme anger issues. It was imperative that professionals step in before someone, or both of them, was killed.
Dr Phil sent in an extraction team to take Drew and Dallas. Their mother and father, Theresa and Dan, had lost control over the twins. The parents agreed to send their sons to separate wilderness camps. There, they would be able to work on their issues in healthy ways and receive support from professional caregivers.
Dr Phil Extracts the Violent Twins
Drew and Dallas were taken by the Aspen Education Group. Drew fought hard to get away, screaming bloody murder all the way to the van. Dallas was calm, because he knew that there was no point in fighting them.
Theresa was told to say her goodbyes to the boys and leave before they were taken from the home. She got outside and knew she had to stay. As a mother, she had to see her sons off safely. Dr Phil said this was a big mistake, and she had to leave. But Theresa knew it was a mistake looking back. The boys were definitely agitated that she was there, and they had very harsh words for her as they left.
Dr Phil Advice For Parents with Violent Children
Dr Phil said that just because your kids are bigger than you, that doesn’t change anything if they are still minors. You still have the ability to work on your problems. Dr Phil said to prevent a confrontation at all costs. But if you do get into it, do not back down and do not lose.
Dr Phil: Why Parents of Addicts Need to Change Too
Teresa and Dan know now that they made the best decision for their kids. In the beginning, they were conflicted about sending the boys.
“I didn’t have a lot of knowledge of where they were going, what they were going to go through,” Dan said. “Once I became away of what was going on, where they were, I felt a lot better about making the right choice.”
The second part of the deal that Teresa and Dan made was to go to therapy themselves. They had to prepare for their sons to come home and live in a healthy environment. Teresa said they kept up their end of the deal, but the couple only went to therapy once.
Dr Phil called the parents out on dragging their feet. The boys have worked hard and graduated from their wilderness programs. They have self-confidence and a sense of pride. Their parents have to change, or they will fall back into their old trends.
