Dr Phil counseled pregnant Emerald and confessed cheater Shawn, who has had affairs with dozens of other women, and has at least one child outside his marriage. But what about his family and children? It turns out that young kids are being put in the middle of their parents’ marital problems.
Dr Phil: Father’s Infidelities
Dr Phil cautioned a married couple about putting kids in the middle of their problems relating to infidelity and extramarital affairs. Would they listen?
In a home video, Emerald interviewed her 10-year-old twins about their exposure to their father’s other girlfriends. They have gone to the beach and visited other women’s houses. The girls called a family meeting because they are disappointed in him missing out on their lives.
The girls also admitted that their mother tells them about their father’s infidelities, and they complain to him about his cheating and lying. It is clear that these girls are too young and are being thrust into the middle of a very adult problem.
Dr Phil: Putting Kids in the Middle
What was her agenda with that home video? Emerald said that Shawn is a manipulator, and when he disappears, she sometimes tells them the truth about what is going on.
Dr Phil said there is no way to justify putting your children in the middle of your affairs and adult relationship problems. Even Shawn admitted that he is being selfish and that takes a toll on the girls.
Dr Phil: Children Vs Parents Infidelity
Dr Phil said that the girls have heard Emerald on the phone confronting other women. She said she did not know what she was supposed to do.
“What do I do to protect myself?” she wondered. But Dr Phil stressed it was about the children, and neither parent should use them against each other.
Emerald said she did not want her children to dislike her because of what her father tells them, but she is doing the same things. If she can’t get a grip on it, how would 10-year-olds be able to process it?
