Dr Phil: Is Heather Awful?
Dr Phil spent some time dealing with Heather and her ex Brian. He thinks she is responsible for the death of their teenage son, since she may or may not have been aware that he was drinking and snorting pills in her house the night before he died in 2008. Even Heather’s friend Bernice thinks that she needs to get help, but she claims none of this is her fault.
“I don’t think you’re an awful person,” Dr Phil said, though he questioned some of her parenting decisions and life choices. “I think you are addicted to prescription medication, and I think that it has changed the way you think, reason, and recall what is going on in your life.”
Dr Phil: Closure for Brian?
Heather did not even want to look at Dr Phil as he told her that she is probably out of control. He was surprised that she was allowed to leave the hospital the night before taping this show, since she overdosed and nearly died in a taxi after shopping at the mall.
Dr Phil said he thinks that Brian cannot get closure in their son’s death, in part because Heather won’t take responsibility for her part in the events that led to his passing.
Dr Phil: Shared Custody
Brian said that he and Heather shared custody for 15 years. “I’ve died six times,” Heather randomly interjected. Does that count include last night?
He now sees that it was probably a mistake for him to let Brandon stay with Heather on this occasion. But Dr Phil said neither of them probably expected or intended for anything like this to happen.
Dr Phil: Brandon’s Last Words
Heather claimed that Brandon’s last words were, “I hate my father.” Brian claimed that Heather’s instinct was for self-preservation, including asking one of Brandon’s friends to hide evidence.
“Go to rehab and move forward,” Brian said. When Heather claimed she is off almost all medications, the audience made some type of judgy noise. It was not exactly a gasp.
Dr Phil: Heather’s Prescriptions
Bernice helpfully pointed out that Heather is on 30-40 medications. Heather said that’s only because she was taking a trip to LA to be on Dr Phil. She does not take all these pills when she is at home in her daily life.
This sad story will drag on into a second day, as Dr Phil confronts Heather with an offer to go to rehab and finally get clean so everyone can move on with their lives. Plus, teens accuse Heather of inappropriate behavior.
