Dr. Phil: Liz Vaccariello The Digest Diet
In order to motivate overweight wife Valinda and overweight mother Donna into losing weight, Dr. Phil invited the author of The Digest Diet, Liz Vaccariello, onto the show. Liz Vaccariello said that attitude is everything when it comes to any diet program and trying to lose weight. You need to change your inner dialogue by not thinking of yourself as fat, but finding things that you love about your body, even in the face of your past failures, of which Donna and Valinda have many, having each tried dozens of diets in the past. However, internal words are powerful, and saying positive things about yourself creates self-fulfilling prophecies.

Dr. Phil set Donna and Valinda up with nutritionist Liz Vaccariello and trainer Robert Reams to get them on the road to better health.
Liz Vaccariello said that inner motivation is everything. Your reasons for losing weight cannot come from any external motivator, and have to come from within: I want to lose weight so I can keep up with my grandkids; I want to lose weight so I can travel the world, etc. Without that internal motivation, when you hit a hurdle along the path to healthier living, you will almost always fail because your motivation is not self-generated.
Dr. Phil: Personal Trainer Robert Reames
Dr. Phil set both Valinda and Donna up with Robert Reames, a world-renowned trainer that will keep them on The Digest Diet and the exercise they need to shepherd them into the better health that they seek. Robert Reames will be closely monitoring the women’s progress, making sure that they’re doing the right things to ensure their success and maintain their confidence. The good news was that Doug and Gary could check out of their roles and hand the reigns over to the professionals. Needless to say, they seemed relieved.
Dr. Phil: The Digest Diet Review
To give Donna and Valinda a look into what they may feel like after taking action and losing their weight, Dr Phil brought Adrienne to the show, who, through diet and exercise, went from a size 18 to a size 8. Adrienne said that she had been through hundreds of diets before finding success, and she said that her success was hindered because the diets she tried before The Digest Diet did not teach her to love her body or work on her emotionally—they just told her what to eat.
Adrienne said that the biggest thing she read in the book that helped her was that you don’t have to hate fat, which she had never heard from other diet programs. The Digest Diet, however, was honest in saying that you do need fat in some capacity for various reasons.
Dr. Phil: Find Something You Love About Yourself
The other thing Adrienne read in the book that motivated her was the part that told her to find something about herself that she loved. Fore Adrienne, it was her cleavage that she found she loved quite a bit (which elicited quite a bit of laughter from her and the audience). When she found that part that she loved, it made her want to bring the rest of her body up to that standard.
In the beginning, Adrienne admitted that it was difficult to exercise because you do get winded and very tired very easily, which can be discouraging. However, Liz says in the book that walking does count when you are very out of shape, so Adrienne started taking the stairs and walking to work, even though she did have to stop from time to time because she got winded. She didn’t let this discourage her, and, though the progress was gradual, she was eventually able to keep up with the exercises in The Digest Diet.
I wish Donna and Valinda nothing but success on their journey to getting healthier!
