Dr. Phil: Tayler Was Brainwashed By Her Father
Tayler’s sisters hate their father, but Tayler does not feel the same way. She always loved being daddy’s little girl, and thinks that she still is. Her mother and her aunt, Debbie, think that Tayler was brainwashed by her father, Russ, and her aunt hoped that the damage he did is not past repair. He used her to such a traumatic extent that Tayler thinks that Russ is the only one that loves and knows her. She called her father her abuser and protector.
The brainwashing has done quite a bit of damage. After the divorce, Tayler would still see her father against her mother’s wishes because she felt like part of her was missing when she wasn’t around. When Russ was convicted, Tayler pleaded with the judge that she would get her father help. She doesn’t want to get married until her father gets out of prison. Deanna thought that if Russ was released from prison tomorrow, Tayler would be living with him as soon as she could.
Dr. Phil: Russ Never Apologized To Tayler
Despite how bad the case may seem, Russ was only given three years to life in prison for each count, meaning that Russ has to spend six years in prison. Of his 12 counts that he was tried for, Russ was only convicted of two. Julia Thomas, the prosecuting attorney in the case, came on to explain the lenient sentence.
In a plea bargain case, the defendant has to issue a statement before they are sent to prison, so Russ had the opportunity to speak say something to Tayler, but he never did. Tayler never knew this, and said that she was very hurt to hear that.
Dr. Phil: Tayler’s Mother Kicks Her Out
To add to the hurt and feelings of abandonment, Tayler was kicked out of her home by her mother because she says she can’t support a drug addict in her home. Tayler’s sisters are also frightened by her activity, because she has snuck drug dealers into her bedroom window and then shot up in the basement.
Deanna wishes she could help her daughter feel better like she did when she was a child, but, for the sake of her other children, could not have her around them.
Tayler’s sisters said that they love her, but having her around made them feel like Russ around again. Tayler didn’t seem to understand everthing that was being done to her after she was a victim for such a long time.
Dr. Phil Says Tayler Needs A New Normal
Dr. Phil said that they have to create a new normal for themselves. Tayler’s current interpretation of normal is woven from fabrics of corruption, and must be torn down and resown with different threads so that she may begin living the life she deserves. Dr. Phil told Tayler to accept that she is in no way responsible for what happened to her as a child, but her emotional evolution is stalled because she has stacked drug addiction on top abuse, her ability to grow becomes limited.
Dr. Phil said that it is time to get Tayler the help she needs to create a new normal for herself.
