Dr Phil: Baby Snatcher Kassandra Toruga Tried To Kill Friend
“Teen in Arizona attacked pregnant friend, tried to cut baby out of her womb, police say.” Angelique was nine months pregnant when a friend introduced her to Kassandra Toruga, who claimed she was seven months pregnant. Kassandra came over to Angelique’s house and stayed a long time talking with her and her mother. Angelique’s mother said that Kassandra was obsessed with C-Sections. She asked where you cut, how you cut and what utensils the doctors use.
Angelique’s mother left to take her two sons to football practice, and despite feeling uneasy, Angelique stayed home talking to Kassandra. Kassandra said she had presents for her friend and took her into a bedroom and turned off the light. She brought a diaper bag with her and began to dig around in it. Angelique knew something was wrong when Kassandra leaned her forward and told her to count to three. Before she got to three, Angelique jumped up and turned on the light. Kassandra hid something in the diaper bag.
Angelique began to smell smoke, but Kassandra said she didn’t smell anything. Angelique open the closet to find a fire. Her mother arrived home as the police and firefighters were inspecting the fire. They found butcher knives and scissors in Kassandra’s diaper bag. She was arrested and found guilty of trying to kill Angelique and steal her baby.
Dr Phil: Angelique Baby Snatcher Victim
Angelique had a hard time recounting the ordeal and talking about it with Dr. Phil. She said that although there were warning signs everywhere, in the moment she didn’t want to assume anything and offend Kassandra. She thought she was crazy for thinking someone else was crazy.
Dr. Phil told her to get those thoughts out of her head. The lessons that parents once taught their children about giving people the benefit of the doubt are fast becoming unnecessary. Cases such as this one happen all too often, and the outcome is not always the same. Dr. Phil brought up three examples of this happening to other young mothers who were killed. Angelique was lucky to have finally acknowledged the warning signs.
Dr. Phil: “Life Code” Danger Warning Signs
Dr. Phil assessed Angelique’s warning signs with her, just to prove that she wasn’t crazy and why you should act when these red flags come up.
- She had a bad feeling about Kassandra, but then stayed alone with her after her mother left
- A friend stopped by and Angelique told him that Kassandra was acting strange. She let the friend leave and stayed alone with Kassandra.
- Angelique was scared, but then went into a dark room with Kassandra.
- She panicked, but let Kassandra sit behind her in a dark room.
- She worried, but how do you ask someone if they are trying to kill you?
Dr. Phil said that his new book Life Code addresses how you should make up new rules about social interaction in today’s world. He said that if a conversation gets to the point where you are worried a friend might try to hurt you, then it’s time to go.
He said that Angelique’s problem was that she tried to be nice about it and got taken advantage of. You have the right to put up boundaries.
