Dr Oz: Don’t Serve Food Family-Style
Dr Oz shared that you can make a change right now in the war against your fat. He had five surprising things that you may have never known were keeping you fat. Dr Oz explained that he sent some of his viewers on a “Fat Five Hunt” to find out what five things were making them hold onto excess fat.
First, Victoria made a home video of how she serves her homemade meals. She shared that she made a family-style crock-pot chicken salsa dish, with a big salad, and cilantro rice. She loves to serve her family, family-style. Dr Oz pointed out that putting the serving dishes on the table was the problem. Research has shown that when you put food on the table, people eat more of it because it’s right there. Instead, serve yourself at the stovetop before sitting down to eat. By requiring a little more effort to get another helping, you will naturally eat less.
Dr Oz: Adjust Your Thermostat To Eat Less

Dr Oz then shared that Victoria was actually making one more mistake, and they took a picture of her thermostat to explain. The thermostat was set at 65 degrees, and Dr Oz explained that when the temperature is cold, your body is cold. When your body is cold, it wants to warm itself up, so it will actually want you to eat more. If you don’t want to change the temperature in your house, you can instead enjoy a warm soup to make your body temperature rise.
Dr Oz: Get Off Your Phone!
Dr Oz then asked women to get out their purses and shined a flashlight into one of them. Dr Oz said the culprit is actually your phone. Dr Oz explained that using your smart phone is the new couch potato. The average person uses their smart phone about five hours a day, and it can actually keep your sedentary for too long.
Dr Oz then shared that from now on, when you use your phone, you should stand. You can actually burn about 50 extra calories with that action alone. Just by standing for an hour a day to use your phone, you could lose an extra five pounds a year. Wow!
Dr Oz: Drink Full-Fat Milk
Next, Dr Oz heard from Ashley Koff, a registered dietitian, who explained that another surprising thing that could be making you fat is skim milk. She explained that fat helps curb your hunger and prevent blood sugar spikes, so you actually want fat in your milk. Research has shown that higher fat dairy is associated with a lower risk of obesity. By removing fat from dairy, you’re changing the hormone profile, so skim milk could actually be contributing to belly fat. The best choice is full-fat organic milk, but she added that you should drink less of it.
Dr Oz: Are Your Pajamas Too Tight?
The last Fat Five item can be found in your bedroom, and a woman named Jessica shared a picture of herself before bed. She shared that she sleeps in a specific pair of pajamas because their comfortable “pack her in like she’s a pig in a blanket.” They’re Spandex material, and Dr Oz explained that when your pajamas are too tight, it’s a problem.
Dr Oz explained that tight pajamas can raise your body temperature and make you burn less fat. When you’re eating, you want to be warmer, and when you’re sleeping you want to be cooler. Wear cotton, loose-fitting pajamas instead.
Were you making any of these fat five mistakes? I’m guilty of three out of five of them!
