Dr Oz: Healthier Sugar Substitutes
Dr Oz was challenging his viewers to come up with healthier dessert recipes using specific sugar substitutes. One viewer already shared her recipe for gluten-free Cinnamon Buns using date sugar instead of white sugar. Next, Dr Oz turned to Paticia, who had to use coconut palm sugar as her white sugar substitute in her recipe. She made ginger molasses cookies using the sugar. Try another idea: Chocolate Brownies with liquid stevia.

Paticia works at Sweet Corner Bakery and said she had actually never used coconut palm sugar before. She said her recipe didn’t change at all, because she used 1-1 ratio and it turned out exactly the same. Dr Oz said that the cinnamon buns were actually dried out a bit with the sugar change, but Patricia’s cookies were wonderful. Dr Oz explained that coconut palm sugar doesn’t cause the same blood sugar spike as regular sugar.
The taster testers said they thoroughly enjoyed the cookies and couldn’t tell a sugar substitute was used.
