Dr Oz: 2013 Health Gadgets Reviewed
Dr. Oz asked A.J. Jacobs to test out about 50 smart phone apps for him, but he also gave him a bunch of gadgets he wanted him to test out as well. Read on to see which products he recommends and which products didn’t get the Dr. Oz seal of approval.
Dr Oz: Philips Wake-Up Light Review
Philips Wake-Up Light: This gadget is a more natural way to wake up in the morning. It works by mimicking the sunrise as it automatically comes on about 30 minutes before you are supposed get up in the morning. It slowly lights up, getting brighter and brighter until it is time for you to get up. Although the product costs around $140 to $150, A.J. and Dr. Oz both agreed it is a good investment because it works with your body’s natural rhythm, helping to put you a better mood when you wake up in the morning.
Dr Oz: Stress Thermometer Review

Dr Oz and A.J. Jacobs reviewed the best health gadgets for 2013, including the Stress Thermometer to measure stress and the Body Massage Mat for massages.
Stress Thermometer – This gadget checks your stress levels during the day. It uses the temperature in your finger to determine how you are feeling. The colder you are the higher your levels of stress and vice versa. Jacobs was not sold on this product though. He did not think the temperature of your finger was a good way to measure stress.
Dr Oz: Vibro Belt Review
Vibro Belt – This gadget straps around your waist and promises to burn belly fat by vibrating it away. Wasn’t there one of these things in the in the 1960s? It looked like a belt on a pole and you wrapped around your waist and it jiggled you. Either way, it didn’t work then and Jacobs said this product isn’t working either. He said there are better ways to burn fat, plus he said the belt was very uncomfortable.
Dr Oz: Body Massage Mat Review
Body Massage Mat – This could be the best $20 you have ever spent. This product promises to give you a professional massage without having to go see a professional. Dr. Oz and Jacobs both demonstrated how the mat worked on stage and said it would be a great product to own.
Dr Oz: Funny Health Related Newspaper Headlines
Dr. Oz said that while you do not see many health jokes in the newspaper, sometimes there are funny headlines. He had a few he wanted to share with viewers:
- “Most Doctors agree that breathing regularly is good for you”
- “Statistics show that teen pregnancy drops off significantly after age 25”
- “Manure is not a health food”
- “Miracle cure kills fifth patient”
- “Scientists develop a rearview mirror to spot bowel cancer”
