Dr Oz: Garbage Man Providing For Homeless
Dr Oz wanted to share the story of Arnold Harvey, the garbage man who was inspired to give back after noticing homeless people on his trash route. Now, seven years later, Arnold and his wife Theresa have made it their family’s mission to lend a helping hand. While most people are asleep, Harvey is hard at work. Dr Oz said that Harvey is far from an ordinary trash man, because to the homeless, he’s an angel. The video showed Harvey walking up to a man sleeping on the street, leaving a backpack by his side, and covering him with a blanket to keep him warm.

The backpack that Harvey leaves is filled with food, blankets, and toiletries, and he calls them love bags. The homeless are beyond thankful and excited to see Harvey, and talk openly about how much he helps them.
Dr Oz shared that Harvey’s good deeds started in 2007 after the recession, when he noticed more people showing up on the streets. He said he went to lift up a trash can when he noticed a family of four laying down behind the dumpster. Harvey got his wife Theresa involved and they started collecting clothing and coats, and made lunches to hand out to the homeless. Theresa explained that the lunches started out very simple with peanut butter and jelly.
Dr Oz: God’s Connection Transition Non-Profit
They then started a non-profit called God’s Connection Transition, or GCT. Today, GCT provides food and supplies to 5,000 families a month. The schedule appointments and shoppers are able to come in and pick freely, as a way to give them a sense of freedom. The Harvey’s provide comfort and kindness to loads of people, and for that, many are thankful.
Dr Oz welcomed Arnold and Theresa to his show. Harvey said there’s a guy who has been fighting cancer for a few years on the street, and he finally got his first apartment. He came back to the non-profit to serve and help those who are now where he used to be. Harvey was nearly homeless himself, which Theresa says shows them that there’s hope on every line. Harvey said someone helped them when they were down, and he wanted to help people in return.
Theresa said it’s a family business so everyone pitches in, and it brings her family together.
