Dr Oz: New Alternative Treatment To Ease Pain
Dr Oz had another brand new treatment idea you may not have heard of, and he was excited to spread the word about Biopuncture.
About 70 million people deal with some form of Chronic Pain. A new, radical treatment is growing in popularity. Botanical Injection, also called Biopuncture, is still controversial, and it is based on homeopathy. This process injects plant-based remedies that probably sound familiar, including:
- Arnica
- Chamomile
- Echinacea
This treatment may also provide relief for patients suffering from Allergies, Eczema, and IBS.
Dr Oz: Biopuncture Vs Acupuncture

Dr Oz and Dr Tasneem Bhatia discussed the emerging treatment of Biopuncture, a chronic pain procedure that injects natural remedies beneath the skin.
Dr Tasneem Bhatia believed that Biopuncture could relief muscle pain and joint pain in common areas of the body. She said that plant-based remedies are injected to the point of pain for healing the cause instead of treating the symptoms.
Dr Oz compared the size of an Acupuncture needle with a Biopuncture needle. Acupuncture needles are injected into meridian points, whereas Biopuncture is a regular needle filled with plant-based extracts.
Meridians are lines of energy that run through the body, and Acupuncture is believed to stimulate the pathways and heal pain. Biopuncture targets an area where you have pain and inflammation. Injecting and letting the muscle heal itself is the principle behind this emerging treatment.
Dr Oz: Biopuncture for Chronic Pain
Patient Kathleen agreed to try Biopuncture on Dr Oz’s stage. She said her chronic pain comes from stress, and she has tried Acupuncture, Acupressure, and Massage in the past. She even had her seven-year-old walk on her back!
Dr Bhatia said that someone with lasting Chronic Pain are good candidates. Even acute injuries, such as a sports injury, could benefit from Biopuncture, especially if conventional methods have not given you relief.
Dr Oz: Biopuncture Cost & Length of Treatment
Dr Bhatia found the area of pain on Kathleen’s neck, and she inserted the needle at a 30 degree angle toward the needle point. The medicine was injected at a few different points, and it looked like it might hurt, but Kathleen said it didn’t.
How long might you need treatment? Dr Bhatia told Dr Oz that you might need two to three months of therapy for every year you have had that pain. That means more recent injuries would need the least treatment.
The cost is around $45-50 per session, and it is not covered by insurance. Though Dr Oz thought that sounded expensive, Dr Bhatia said it is “an easy, relatively inexpensive way to manage pain, with fewer side effects,” compared to the billion dollar chronic pain industry.
Dr Oz: Is Biopuncture Safe?
Though some patients have immediate relief, others have results within a few days. Dr Oz stressed that this is a new technique. Integrative medicine physician Dr David Katz was in the audience to say that it’s too early to know whether this is safe.
Dr Bhatia said that the results speak for themselves, and her patients have been seeing dramatic improvements with fewer costs, risks, and side effects. Dr Oz said that herbal remedies are effective topically, but there has yet to be conclusive evidence that it works under the skin. Do you think you would try it for pain relief?
