Dr Oz: Are You Gluten Sensitive?
As Dr Oz said, there’s a good chance you know someone who’s gone gluten-free. What you may not know is that gluten could be the culprit behind your own digestive issues and low energy. Lakisha was showing the classic signs of gluten sensitivity. She shared that no matter how much sleep she gets, she’s always exhausted. Her life is hectic between her full-time job and six kids. Her husband Nick is the cook for the family, and everything he makes has pasta in it. She’ll eat it and right away feel cramping and bloating. She also feels foggy, has joint stiffness, and tired.

Lakisha’s sister-in-law would come to visit bringing all of her gluten-free foods with her. Her sister-in-law has no issues and is living a happy life, which makes Lakisha think that maybe she should go gluten-free as well. But she’s worried that because gluten is such a staple in her diet and the diet of her family that it would just be too much of a hurdle. She wants to know if she has a gluten sensitivity and if she does, how to cut it out of her life for good.
Lakisha told Dr Oz that she wants to play with her kids but she just has no energy. She thinks gluten is to blame because that’s all she eats. She explained that because gluten is so easy, the thought of trying to give it up is overwhelming.
Dr Oz: What Is Celiac Disease?
Dr Oz said the first thing is figuring out whether Lakisha is gluten intolerant or suffering from celiac disease. The good news is that there are multiple ways you can figure that out. He took Lakisha to the Truth Tube after running a blood test on her. He explained that Celiac Disease is when your autoimmune cells that are supposed to protect you begin attacking you because they’re confused by the gluten in your body. If you have Celiac Disease, you have to give up gluten all the time. Lakisha’s blood works suggests that she doesn’t have Celiac Disease.
Dr Oz: What Is Gluten Intolerance?
But gluten could still be an issue, because a much more common issue in America is gluten intolerance. Gluten intolerance is when you have a reaction to the gluten proteins and the sensitivity could be what’s giving Lakisha her symptoms. They found that Lakisha actually has that, which makes sense. Dr Oz then explained that you don’t have to undergo a blood test to figure out if you may have a gluten intolerance.
Dr Oz: Symptoms Of Gluten Sensitivity
The symptoms Lakisha was experiencing included low energy, headaches, brain fog, joint pain, constipation, bloat, and stomach pain. Dr Oz said if you have those symptoms, you could be pretty sure that gluten is part of the puzzle. He thought it would make a huge difference if Lakisha eliminated gluten. She said if she wasn’t dealing with all the symptoms, she could be super mom, and Dr Oz said he had just the plan for her.
