Dr Oz: Summer Cleanse Detox Plan
Dr Oz was excited to kick off detox week with an easy summer cleanse perfect for anyone. The plan takes just five days, and a few women tried it and lost weight, slept better, and had a lot more energy. Brooke Alpert, a nutritionist and dietitian explained that five days is perfect because it’s long enough to give you results, but short enough to cause you to immediately binge afterward.
Brooke said the secret to success is taking advantage of certain summer foods. First, Brooke explained that there’s a food that is a natural diuretic and prebiotics. Plus, it’s low in calories and high in fiber and antioxidants. So what is it? Asparagus!
As for how asparagus fits into the plan, Dr Oz explained that day one was all about flushing out your digestive system using magnesium and prebiotics, which asparagus has. Brooke explained that prebiotics feed the healthy bacteria in your digestive system, helping it to work better. Magnesium is a natural relaxant that helps flush your system more regularly.

Brooke explained that on day one, you’re getting those nutrient in liquid form in order to give your G.I. tract a rest. For breakfast on day one, consume a juice made of asparagus, kale, fennel, parsley, lemon, and green apple.
For lunch and dinner, drink a smoothie loaded with kale, avocado, coconut milk, dates, bananas, and almond butter, in any sort of combination that you want. It’s a super filling smoothie that is great for your digestive system. On day one you can enjoy asparagus with some almonds as a snack.
It’s also always a good idea to make sure you’re drinking enough water. Brooke made ice cubes with blackberries inside of them, and then used those to flavor a big pitcher of water. Not only will you be drinking deliciously flavored water, but you’ll also be adding magnesium to your drink!
Dr Oz: Reduce Inflammation With Sulfur-Rich Foods
As for days 2-4, you want to reduce inflammation using sulfur-rich foods. Brooke explained that sulfur can help cleanse and detox your body naturally. To help figure out if a food has sulfur in it, Brooke suggested paying attention to whether it has a smell to it when it’s cooked. Hard boiled eggs, asparagus, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, garlic, onions, scallions, and more are loaded with sulfur. She suggested you try to incorporate some of those foods into every meal you eat.
One woman followed the plan and lost eight pounds. She shared pictures of some of the meals she ate while following the plan. She made a tuna salad with greens, asparagus, and lemon juice. She shared that because a lot of places don’t serve asparagus, she would bring her own and add it to her meals. She also ate grilled chicken with zucchini, asparagus, peppers, onions, and carrots. The woman shared that she struggled a bit when it got to day three, but once she got “over the hump” she felt a lot better.
Dr Oz: Boost Metabolism With Protein & Fiber
Once you get to day five of the plan, you can then boost your metabolism using protein and fiber. The key to boosting your metabolism is small meals in order to help your body use calories while you eat. The protein and fiber help keep you full, which makes it easier to stick to the diet plan. Brooke explained that a deck of cards is one serving of protein, just as the palm of your hand is. By eating regular, small frequent meals, your blood sugar stays more stable, helping you to lose weight.
Dr Oz: Detox Plan For More Energy
Once the five days are over, you can go back to eating normally, but Brooke said she really wants people to think of the plan as a way to jump-start healthy eating. Two women found success with the plan, and felt as if they had a lot more natural energy, given that they had to give up coffee and tea.
Brooke said you can do the plan as regularly as you want, especially when you really need a boost to start eating healthier again. Would you try this detox plan? What would be the hardest part for you?
