Dr Oz: Plan To Lower Your Blood Sugar
Dr Oz shared that one in four Americans over the age of 20 has high blood sugar, putting them at risk for Diabetes. The good news is that we have the power to stop it before it starts. He had the easiest plan ever to keep your blood sugar low, starting first thing in the morning and going through the whole day.
One mother shared that she is looking for healthier food choices both for herself and for her family. Dr Oz had four steps to lower your glucose levels, asking for just two weeks to make it happen.
Dr Oz: Steel Cut Oatmeal Breakfast
He started by talking about the beginning of the day, saying that you should automate your breakfast with steel cut oatmeal. He said it’s full of soluble fiber and takes only about 15 minutes to make, but you could even make it in advance if that works better for you. Your body digests the oatmeal slowly which keeps you full and also keeps your blood sugar levels where they need to be.
Dr Oz: Non-Starchy Vegetables For Lunch
Next, Dr Oz wanted to tackle your lunch by saying that you should include non-starchy vegetables in your meal. He suggested eating spinach, green beans, or broccoli, which are all high in fiber and low in carbohydrates. He said the starchy vegetables which grow out of the ground end up storing sugar in your body, which can spike your blood sugar level.
Dr Oz: Cinnamon Instead Of Sugar
Dr Oz then looked at sweeteners and said the right amount of sugar isn’t necessarily bad, but sugar itself doesn’t have a nutritional benefit. He said if you’re dealing with blood sugar issues, you want to be thoughtful about what you add to your drinks. he shared that cinnamon is a powerful replacement for sugar, and suggested you add it to your afternoon cup of coffee or tea.
He shared that cinnamon helps your body regulate its blood sugars by helping the insulin work better. He said it tastes different but is something that you can definitely adjust to.
Dr Oz: Go Meatless Twice A Week
Finally, Dr Oz discussed meat and suggested that for two days a week you go meatless. He said studies show that people who are vegetarians tend to have lower risk of developing diabetes than those who are meat eaters. He suggested eating a black bean burger or vegetarian chili instead.
