Dr Oz: Tea Vs Coffee
Are you a coffee person or a tea person? Dr Oz announced that it’s time to pick a side because he was hosting the coffee vs tea ultimate showdown! For the coffee side, Dr Oz welcomed the author of Coffee Crazy, Robert Galinsky. On the tea side was nutritionist Keri Glassman. Dr Oz said they each had 30 seconds to plead their case and there would be three rounds: health benefits, caffeine levels, and flavor.
Dr Oz: Coffee Vs Tea Health Benefits

Are you a coffee drinker or a tea sipper? Dr Oz was ready to pit the two against each other to determine which was better. (agirlwithtea / flickr)
Round one was health benefits and Robert was up first. He shared that coffee is used for research in Parkinson’s Disease, Alzheimer’s Disease, Type 2 Diabetes, and Cancer. You can also drink coffee to reduce your risk of getting Multiple Sclerosis. If you drink coffee and take a pain reliever, you can up the pain reliever’s effectiveness by 40%. Coffee can also boost your metabolism and help you lose weight.
As for tea, Keri said all types of tea comes from the same plant, and it’s the different processes that change the nutrient levels and the taste. Green tea can prevent cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, and obesity as well as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. As for black tea, it can increase mental alertness. Keri had a lot more to say but she ran out of time.
As for who won the first time, Dr Oz said he saw a little more tea, but it looked pretty split to me!
Dr Oz: Caffeine From Coffee Vs Tea
Next, Dr Oz wanted to compare the caffeine levels of coffee versus tea. They each had 15 seconds to share why their drink had “the better jolt.” Robert shared that coffee has two times the amount of caffeine that tea does. In spring 2015, Serena Williams lost the first set of a tennis match before asking for an espresso. She came out and won the next round, smothering her opponent.
Keri then argued that caffeine is a stimulant and isn’t real energy. She said only calories from food give you real energy. She said the little jolt from tea can be more beneficial so that you don’t have a crash later on. Tea won that round!
Dr Oz: Which Tastes Better, Tea Or Coffee?
Finally, Dr Oz asked Robert and Keri to pour the best versions of their drinks for the flavor round. Carla and Allison came down to taste each drink and make their votes. Dr Oz said he would serve as the tiebreaker. Both Carla and Allison voted for coffee, which was declared the winner!
So which would you declare the winner? Tea or coffee?
Dr Oz: La La Anthony Motherhood
Before the end of the show, Dr Oz called La La Anthony back out, and shared a picture of her with her son. The caption read “I never knew a love like this existed until God blessed me with you.” For all the moms out there, La La said don’t be shy if you want something from your family, because oftentimes mothers are too shy to ask. She said if no one is doing something for you, do it for yourself!
