Dr Oz: Beat Your Carb Addiction
Dr Oz shared that he was going to tackle your carb addiction, with a revolutionary idea that lets you “eat carbs to beat carbs.” First, he asked Oz Nation to share their best carb memories. They shared that they loved bread, muffins, and decadent pasta dishes. He welcomed personal trainer Chris Powell to the show to help those people who are having a love affair with carbohydrates.
Powell explained that the problem with carbohydrates is that they cause cravings, both emotional and physical. The thing is, there are actually some health benefits to carbs.

Dr Oz explained that the first trick is to use fat to fight cravings for carbs. Chris explained that when you eat the carbs, your body digests them quickly and your blood sugar shoots through the roof. When your blood sugar comes back down, you’re craving even more. Fats help you stabilize blood sugars.
Chris suggested one tablespoon of almond butter 30 minutes before each meal. Dr Oz explained that there’s a valve in the stomach that regulates how quickly food leaves your stomach, and healthy fats help slow that process down. Chris shared that a tablespoon of almond butter is about 100 calories, but when you think about how it keeps you from over-eating later, it could potentially save you from eating bad calories later.
Dr Oz: Carb Addict
Dr Oz called down a woman from his audience who was a self-proclaimed carb addict. She explained that she always has to have bread, and was even craving carbs right then. He had her try the almond butter and the water together to see if, when they checked back in on her, she had a reduced level of cravings.
Dr Oz: Plan To Break Your Carb Addiction
Next, to break your carb addiction, have bread and pasta every other day. Chris said you need to create a cycle to let you lose fat while still enjoying the comfort foods. A typical week means a low-carb day on Monday, and then a bagel for breakfast on Tuesday. Go back to a low-carb day again on Wednesday before enjoying a slice of pizza on Thursday to boost your metabolism. Remember, it’s just one meal that includes carbs on those specific days.
Friday, go back to a low-carb day, and then enjoy some pancakes on Saturday and spaghetti and meatballs on Sunday. Chris said any of the meals with carbs are never dinner, and are either breakfast or lunch, to keep you from falling off the wagon.
Dr Oz: Believe You Can
Chris said the main ingredient to success is believing you can do it. Dr Oz said you’re never more than 24 hours away from a cheat meal, which means you can achieve this plan. They checked back in on the woman who ate the almond butter and she said the carbs didn’t look as appealing anymore.
