Dr Neal Barnard joined Dr Oz to discuss the idea that cheese is addictive and should be given up if you want to lose weight and improve your health. But how do you stop your cheese addiction? Dr Oz: No-Cheese Eating Calendar
To break your addiction from cheese, Dr Barnard first suggested a no cheese-eating calendar. Dr Barnard tells anyone trying to break free of cheese addiction to try to take seven days to write down what they would typically eat, but modify it by removing the cheese.
Dr Oz: Replace Cheese With Avocado
Some meals wouldn’t have cheese anyway but for example, instead of adding cheese to your sandwich, try adding avocado instead. Avocado can give you the mouth feel you’re looking for with added nutrients. Over time, you can learn a number of other great things to eat instead of cheese. Dr Barnard would handle pizza. Pizza is the number one delivery vehicle for cheese. Dr Barnard tops his pizza with nutritional yeast instead of cheese. It’s sold in the supplement aisle and its high in protein. Surprisingly, it tastes just like cheese!

Dr Oz: Tapioca Cheese & Almond Cheese
As for non-dairy cheese, they are tasting better than ever. Vegan cheeses are made from cashews, almonds, or tapioca and taste just like cheese. Dr Barnard joked that they’re almost like “cheese methadone.” Two cheese lovers tried the cheese alternatives as well and said they could maybe make the switch. They liked the cashew cream as a substitute for cream cheese.
