Dr Oz Alert: Could Diet Soda Cause a Heart Attack?

What’s in your fridge right now that could raise your Heart Attack risk by 30%? According to a new study mentioned by Dr Oz, Diet Soda could be worse than you thought.

Consumers’ intentions in drinking Diet Soda were good, but more evidence continues to show that we could be getting unintended results. A University of Iowa study has linked drinking even small amounts of diet soda to higher risks of Stroke, Heart Disease and Death.

Dr Oz shared new research that explores why Diet Soda could put your heart at risk, even if you don’t drink very much. Should you rethink your soda habit?

Women who drank two or more diet sodas per day had higher risks of Cardiovascular Disease and other complications, as well as becoming 50% more likely to die from Heart Disease. This report could change your life.

Dr Oz: Carbonation & Artificial Sweeteners Heart Danger

Margaret told Dr Oz she is addicted to diet soda, and she can drink a two-liter bottle per day by herself. He said that it seems like a healthier choice to pick a diet soda over a regular version.

But this research points to ingredients that could increase your heart attack risk. There is a connection between carbonation and artificial sweeteners. Dr Oz explained that Aspartame, an artificial sweetener, tricks the brain and changes the way it processes sweet tastes. Together, carbonation and Aspartame create a barrier that prevents your brain from feeling that your cravings for sweets is ever satisfied.

What’s more, it can increase blood pressure and lead to high cholesterol, excess belly fat, and high blood sugar. These factors together are putting a lot of strain on the heart. Margaret said that she does know she should wean off of her diet soda habit.

Dr Oz said you should also be aware of Caramel Coloring in the soda. That’s because it gets absorbed into the bloodstream, irritating the lining of your arteries, leading to plaque, ruptures, and clotting. This can cause heart attacks.

Dr Oz: Diet Soda with Seltzer Water

Many people probably have had Diet Soda in their kitchens. But now some are rethinking this practice, and diet soda sales are actually on the decline. If you are trying to cut back, Dr Oz suggested mixing equal parts of Seltzer Water and Diet Soda together to help you cut down on what you are drinking.
