Dr Oz: Can You Eat Healthy On $4 A Day?

Dr Oz challenged Michelle Davis and Matt Holloway, the duo behind Thug Kitchen, to create a healthy meal plan for just $4 a day. Together they made Quinoa Oatmeal for breakfast, a Spiced Chickpea Wrap for lunch, peanut butter and banana toast for a snack, and Cabbage Soup for dinner. They were challenged to meat the following daily macros:

  • 70 grams protein
  • 70 grams fat
  • 230 grams carbs
  • at least 25 grams fiber

The duo behind Thug Kitchen were challenged to create an entire day’s worth of meals for under $4. Were they able to meet Dr Oz’s nutritional guidelines? (lara604 / Flickr)

It turns out they did even better than that. They met all the goals and even met a total of 52 grams of fiber! But did they stay under $4? It turns out they spent $3.74 for the day! As for what they took away from the experience, Matt wanted everyone to know that while it was tough, it was certainly doable. All it takes is a little planning.

Dr Oz Bite Club

Dr Oz introduced Linda, Shannon, and Aljenee joined the show to taste test each of the dishes. They loved all of the meals and were thrilled as Dr Oz introduced his Bite Club. He encouraged viewers to share their own recipes and meals on social media using the hashtag #DrOzBiteClub. You can try some of the recipes made right there on the show and share your own opinions of the recipes with everyone else. You can sign up to be a part of the Dr Oz Bite Club by signing up on Dr Oz’s website. You’re then granted access to all sorts of perks including recipes.
