Dr Oz: Common Moisturizing Mistakes Making You Look Old
Are you making a moisturizing mistake in an attempt to keep your face looking youthful? Dr Oz invited celebrity dermatologist Dr Fredric Brandt to the show.
Brandt has worked with Madonna and Kelly Ripa, and he admitted he likes to think outside the box to come up with new techniques in cosmetic dermatology. Choosing the wrong moisturizer, inconsistent application, or not using any moisturizer could be the mistakes you are making.
Dr Oz: Exfoliating Potion Recipe

Dr Fredric Brandt shared his lightweight Oily Skin moisturizer, an Exfoliating Potion recipe, and more moisturizing tips to use daily with Dr Oz’s audience.
Do you have dry skin? Are you applying moisturizer to your face after showering? Dr Brandt told one woman she could be aging her face. Putting moisturizer on dry skin could result in peeling or flaking.
First, you should exfoliate to remove dead, dry skin cells on the surface. Here’s an at-home microdermabrasion recipe you can use.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Sugar
- 2 tbsp Whole Milk
Directions
- Mix into a paste, but don’t get it too runny.
- Apply this gently to the face for exfoliation.
Dr Oz: Hyaluronic Acid & Ceramides in Moisturizer
How often do you use your moisturizer? One woman said she moisturizes a few times per week with a product containing peptides, but she is still seeing wrinkles. What is she doing wrong? Dr Brandt and Dr Oz updated everyone on this beauty trick.
Peptides, a chain of amino acids, can tell the body to produce collagen. But they can also decrease the skin’s natural growth factors if you don’t use them regularly. Dr Brandt’s advice was to use them twice each day.
Choose a product containing the humectant Hyaluronic Acid, as well as anti-inflammatory Ceramides.
Dr Oz: Lightweight Moisturizer for Oily Skin
Do you have oily skin? Maybe you think your skin is already moist enough, but this could be a mistake. You still need to take care of your face.
Dr Brandt and Dr Oz had advice for oily skin. “Sometimes you get a little peely and flaky,” Dr Brandt said, and your body can produce even more oil as a result of no moisturizer. His solution was to choose a lightweight moisturizer.
Avoid petroleum or silicone. Instead, opt for a product with glycerin that will help to attract water.
Dr Oz: Moisturizing Routine Order
Dr Oz also emphasized that it’s important to do your moisturizing routine in the proper order, as follows:
- Cleanse
- Exfoliate
- Serum
- Eye Cream
- Moisturizer
- Sunscreen
