Dr. Oz: Healthy Heart Clinic
Dr. Oz talked about his recent Healthy Heart Clinic drive in Jersey City, in the heart of New York Harbor. He had a team of doctors and volunteers to help fight heart disease. They measured people’s waist size, cholesterol, and blood pressure for free to help save lives. The crowds were bigger than any of them expected.
Dr. Oz said that those three numbers of Waist Size, Blood Pressure, and Cholesterol were key in improving heart health. In a montage, Dr. Oz showed how many people he treated. Some people he was able to tell had very healthy hearts, while others had serious problems. One woman had extremely high blood pressure and was symptomatic, having headaches. Her blood pressure was 200 over 125. Dr. Oz rushed her to the hospital to help prevent something that could’ve been “catastrophic”.
Dr. Oz: 3 Key Heart Numbers
Then Dr. Oz met Lisa, who had been having a lot of problems with her heart, including chest pains. He measured her 3 key heart numbers of waist size, cholesterol, and blood pressure. Lisa’s waist size was 52 inches. Her good Cholesterol number should have been more than 50 and hers was 32. Her blood pressure was 177 over 94. Dr. Oz warned Lisa that he usually sends people to the hospital with numbers like that.
Dr. Oz was so concerned, he personally took her aside to do more testing. The ultrasound showed how her heart was beating and Dr. Oz said it looked good. After doing an EKG, he learned that her heart was beating very quickly. Dr. Oz told Lisa that everything was fixable, as long as she started today.
Lisa joined Dr. Oz in the studio. She said it was hard to watch the video. Dr. Oz said he had confidence in her and knew she could reverse her problems. He said that because she knew the three numbers, she was able to change her life.
Dr. Oz: High Blood Pressure
Tamoya is 33 years old and came to the Healthy Heart Clinic to find out if she had heart problems. She went to give blood a few weeks before the Healthy Heart Clinic and she was disqualified because her blood pressure was skyrocketing. They asked her how she felt and how she could walk around with the blood pressure she had. Her blood pressure, when measured by the nurse, was so worrying the nurse went to get Dr. Oz immediately.
Her blood pressure was 165 over 112. Dr. Oz said that high blood pressure ruins the veins inside the body, it corrodes it like rusty pipes. Dr. Oz said he was puzzled because her cholesterol and and waist size were perfect and ideal. But her third number was troublesome.
Tamoya had some blood work done and she’s going to have a follow-up in a few weeks. Dr. Oz said that’s great. He also reiterated that once you know your numbers, you can take efforts to improve them.
Dr. Oz’s Campaign For Heart Health
Dr. Oz said that he wanted viewers to learn their three healthy heart numbers of blood pressure, cholesterol, and waist circumference. All season long, Dr. Oz will give tips on how to improve those numbers.
