Dr Oz: Stress Causes Heart Disease?
Do you have a bad temper? Do you let situations get to you? Are you the type to react immediately, or silently let anger build up until it explodes? Dr Oz looked at the connections between anger and weight gain, as well as how stress causes heart disease. He did a fun experiment along the way. Dr Oz: How To Tame Your Temper
We all have different ways of handling and reacting to stressful situations. Whether you are calm or boisterous, the anger and stress that we feel can have true medical consequences, such as heart disease. He is sharing some advice so we understand why managing our tempers can be good for our health.
At a grocery store, Dr Oz set up a hidden camera and hired some actors to be rude to shoppers and see how they might react. Some people ignored the rude behavior, while others yelled back at the actors.
Dr Oz: Stress High Blood Pressure
After the experiment was revealed, some of the participants agreed to have their vital signs recorded. It’s no surprise that blood pressure was very high for the people in this stressful situation. Dr Oz said that’s his biggest red flag. If your blood pressure is consistently being raised, that’s a sign you’re at risk for heart disease.
It’s normal for blood pressure to become high during a stressful situation. But if it becomes a chronic or routine problem, where your blood pressure is exploding every day, that can cause lasting damage to your heart over a period of time. Try to predict when stress might be on the horizon so you can prepare to manage it better.
Dr Oz: Stress, Heart Disease & Aging
A new study found that chronic stress is directly associated with weight gain and actually causes the body to age an entire decade. That means you could be cutting your life too short because you’re getting so worked up all the time.
Maybe we need to take a deep breath and relax the next time something gets under our skin. I know I’m going to practice the Andrew Weil 4-7-8 Breathing Trick to see if it helps.
