You get kidney stones from chronic dehydration. Doctors and surgeons get them a lot because they don’t get a lot of water. Dr. Oz said that global warming is causing people to sweat more, so we have to drink more water. But people aren’t doing that. Kidney stones are often made of calcium and are actually like little pebbles. They can be very sharp and can cause little cuts on their way out.
Dr. Oz: What Color Should Our Urine Be?
Dr. Oz explained that there are usually tiny deposits forming in our kidneys and they’re normally washed out without any problems. But when a person doesn’t drink enough water, the deposits can join together, forming a hard stone that’s difficult to pass and causes damage along the way.
Dominique asked how much water we should be drinking to prevent kidney stones. That’s when Dr. Oz revealed the Wheel of Urine, which had several different colors of urine on it. Dr. Oz said that urine should be straw-colored or really close to clear. If your urine is dark yellow or even brown, you need to drink a lot more water.
Dr. Oz: Drinking Lemonade To Get Rid of Kidney Stones
Dr. Oz explained that there’s a chemical in lemons that can help keep the deposits from forming a giant stone. He demonstrated this with magnetized balls, that stick together really easy without a magnet of opposite attraction in the middle to push them away. The chemical in lemons is like a magnet of opposite attraction, forcing the deposits from forming a large one. He said that it’s important to make freshly squeezed lemonade, rather than bottled. Be careful with the sugar. But lemonade will help you keep those kidney stones away.
