Dr Oz: Plan To Break Wine Addiction

Dr Oz shared that there is nothing wrong with the occasional glass of wine but when it becomes your crutch and the only way you can deal with stress, it could be a sign that there’s a problem. He wanted to reveal the plan to cut back on your wine habit before it becomes a more serious problem.

Kristina Wandzilak, an intervention specialist, explained that the greatest thing to do if you’re questioning your relationship with alcohol is to cut it out for nine days. It’s a social experiment that will allow you to see things more clearly. Kristina herself hasn’t had a drink in 21 years.

Dr Oz: Keep A Feelings Journal

Dr Oz and Kristina wanted to help Melissa, a woman who has been using wine as a crutch for years, find a healthier way to unwind and deal with her stress. He said he believes that Melissa is drinking her feelings, and Melissa agreed. First, Dr Oz said he wanted Melissa to keep a drinking diary to uncover her true feelings.

Kristina explained that before you take a drink, sit down and think about why you’re drinking, what you’re feeling, and what you don’t want to feel.

Dr Oz: Replace Wine With Social Interaction

Secondly, replace one drink each night with a social interaction. Kristina said you can make a phone call or write an email. Even go visit a neighbor. Melissa said she would probably talk to her best friend.

Dr Oz: Tart Cherry Juice Instead Of Wine

Next, you should replace the ritual. Dr Oz pointed out that Melissa likes to drink wine to help her get to sleep. He recommended that instead of wine, she try tart cherry juice. The juice actually has tannins in it just like wine, as well as Melatonin.

Dr Oz pointed out that Melissa seemed skeptical, and so he asked what Melissa thought would work for her. She said it’s scary but she wants to take it one step at a time. She said she thinks she can do it, and Dr Oz said he knows she can. Dr Oz said he and Kristina would be there for Melissa to help her through it and make it happen.
