Dr. Oz explained that iron is the most common nutrient deficiency. He said that iron is what pumps oxygen into your body. When you put iron into the body, it fills up the red cells, and the red cells with all the oxygen can then carry energy all over the place. Iron is what makes it possible to deliver energy throughout the body, so you can understand why it’s important we have enough of it.

Dr. Oz shared a self-test you can do to check and see if you may be iron deficient. He said to look in the mirror and look for circles beneath the eye. Dark eye circle are a sign of iron deficiency. He also said to look beneath the eyelid.

If it has a pinkish color, that’s good but if it’s pale white, it could be a sign of iron deficiency. All you need to do to fix it is just intake more iron. Eat just one cup of lentils per day and you will get the iron you need.

Dr Oz: Avocados For Potassium Deficiency & Leg Cramps

Dr. Oz said the average American takes in half the potassium they need, which leads to leg cramps. He said potassium is important for the big leg muscles. When there is low potassium levels, the muscle doesn’t get enough blood. When it doesn’t get enough blood, the muscle is heavy because it demands a lot of nutrients. He said sometimes, the craps are so bad they actually kill some of the muscle.

Dr. Oz said potassium deficiency is easy to treat but we’re getting too much sodium which means salt and potassium are “fighting each other.” In order to get the potassium you need, Dr. Oz suggested eating 1 avocado a day.

Dr Oz: Zinc Deficiency Causes Hair Loss

Dr. Oz shared that 2 billion people around the world are zinc deficient. He said if you don’t have enough zinc, you could lose large amounts of hair.

If you’re losing about 100 hairs a day, Dr. Oz said you should be worried about zinc deficiency. In order to get the zinc you need, you should eat 2 oysters per day. You can eat both canned or fresh.
