Dr Oz: How to Save A Life
Dr Oz was excited to announce that throughout the new season of his show, he was going to give his viewers the information they needed in order to save someone’s life. For his season premiere, he wanted to start with CPR. He explained that CPR is vital because your own hands can keep blood flowing to the heart. He wanted to show that anyone could learn CPR, so he randomly selected someone from the audience to join him and learn.

Dr Oz was joined by Cheryl, a secretary who doesn’t know how to do CPR. He told Cheryl to imagine walking down the street when she suddenly noticed a woman start to struggle a bit. The woman is rubbing her chest and possibly dealing with plaque build-up in her arteries. As she was walking, the woman’s heart was unable to pump blood, and she collapsed. So at that point, Cheryl needed to make a split-second decision.
Dr Oz: How to Perform CPR
Cheryl said she would call 911 first, which is certainly the right answer. But what’s next? You should place the person flat on the ground and check for breathing. Dr Oz also said you should be above the person so that you can get over them. Next, place one hand on the sternum, which is the breast bone. Place your other hand on top of the bottom hand and interlock your fingers to give you stability. Your elbows should be locked with your shoulders over the body as you pump fast and hard until help arrives. You want to shoot for 100 pushes a minute and think like you’re pressing to the beat of “Stayin’ Alive.”
Do you know how to perform CPR? Do you feel that you could do it well enough to save someone’s life?
