Dr Oz: Optimist/Pessimist Test
Consider the following statement: “Words cannot express how I feel about you.” When you read those words do you consider them a compliment or an insult? Dr. Oz says if you consider them an insult you are a pessimist and you tend to look at life like the glass is half empty. If you consider it a compliment though, you are an optimist. Dr. Oz said this type of thinking can improve your longevity and make you less prone to neurological disorders.
Dr Oz: Three Steps To Change From Pessimistic To Optimistic
Dr. Sue Varma had three ways for you to improve your outlook on life, saying life is all about how you perceive it:
- When a friend has something negative happen in their life, what advice do you give them? Dr. Varma said taking out the emotion and sticking to the facts is important because it keeps you objective.
- Analyze the cost and benefit. Dr. Varma said this is important because it helps you realize you have options and it allows you to weight those options at your leisure. Also, try to think of the cost and benefit of each situation.
- What is the alternative perspective? After weighing the cost and benefit of a decision, focus on the positive perspective and flip the perception you have around so you can only see the good. Look for the silver lining in every situation. Dr. Varma reiterated that you can not always change the way life happens but you can change how you perceive it.
