Dr Oz: What Your Body Language Reveals About Your Health
What does your body language say about your health? Dr Oz said it can go beyond personality, and he invited Janine Driver to share her expertise with the audience. Driver, president of The Body Language Institute, said we may have subtle signs we are not very aware of. Pay attention to the little signs so you can figure out what is physiologically happening in your body.
Dr Oz: Gut Inflammation Body Language

What does a shoulder shrug or your hand gestures convey about your words in conversation? Connect health warnings and body language with advice from Dr Oz.
How can you tell whether you might have Irritable Bowel just from your facial expression? Dr Oz and Driver said that rubbing your eyes can be a sign of gut inflammation. “When our gut inflames, it also affects the soft tissue in our eyes,” she said, recommending eye drops for relief.
Touching the eyes can also be perceived as eye blocking, something that liars, murderers, and politicians do, according to Driver. A woman in the audience said she was fascinated to make this connection with her frequent eye rubbing, because she has Mass Cell Activation Syndrome.
Dr Oz: Shoulder Shrug & Sighing Panic Disorder
Are you a sigher? I think I am, and it’s the kind of thing you don’t really notice when you do it sometimes. What does this mean for your health? Janine Driver told Dr Oz this is a sign that our body is out of whack, or a symptom of a panic disorder.
“It’s your body’s way of resetting to a more relaxed state,” she said, but if you are sighing more often, it can be a sign of stress from work, finances, or romance.
Shoulder shrugs also convey uncertainty, so be aware of the message you are sending without even realizing it.
Dr Oz: Hand Gestures While Speaking
Where do you put your hands when you sit? Driver said if you normally talk with your hands, but you find that you have stopped, it could be because your stress and anxiety levels have risen.
Maybe you are feeling defeated. Dr Oz learned that a lack of hand gestures can mean you don’t believe what you are saying. If anything, Dr Oz’s wild gesticulations must mean he believes every word that comes out of his mouth.
“Your body language gestures indicate sincerity, passion,” she said, adding that people who use their hands while talking are more likely to connect and be perceived as dynamic.
Dr Oz: Body Pacifier
Dr Oz said he has a tic that makes him rub his eyelashes with his thumb. He has done it throughout life, often when he is tired. Janine Driver said this is called a Pacifier, a comforting gesture where you touch your body to relax yourself, lowering stress and anxiety. Do you have a pacifier?
Dr Oz: Selfies Health Benefits
Dr Oz took a selfie with his studio audience to explain the health benefits of these candid photos. One woman said she uses photos to track her weight, called Belfies. Another can track her moisturizer effects and skin changes. Another woman uses selfies to keep track of her portion size to ensure that she is keeping meals under control.
