60 Minutes October 19 2014
Recapo update: Here are the segments from this edition.
- 60 Minutes: Barbara Mancini Death with Dignity & End-of-Life Care
- 60 Minutes: Shawn Ryan Gold Science, Yukon Prospector & Peel Watershed
- 60 Minutes: Italy’s Roman Colosseum, Trevi Fountain + Rialto Bridge
I think this might be the first edition of 60 Minutes this season that does not feature a lengthy interview with a U.S. government official! Tune in October 19 as the newsmagazine finally turns its focus onto more varied topics. Barbara Mancini will speak to Anderson Cooper about the end-of-life debate. Bob Simon is traveling to the Yukon to learn about mushroom hunting. Then, Morley Safer is sharing a story about Italy’s history and future.
60 Minutes: Ending Life
Barbara Mancini was arrested for helping her dying father end his own life. How did she find herself in the spotlight of a raging national debate about death with dignity? It’s something we have heard about recently on social media, as a young woman with a terminal brain tumor has deliberately plotted out her final days.
Learn more about this topic in Anderson Cooper’s 60 Minutes report this Sunday, which will include Mancini’s first television interview since her arrest.
60 Minutes: Yukon Gold Rush
Bob Simon is reporting from the Yukon Territory in Canada about a compelling entrepreneur. Shawn Ryan has become a successful gold prospector by using what he knows about mushroom picking to help him figure out where gold is likely to be found.
Though his new job as a gold prospector can be dangerous, it has made the frugal man a millionaire. And it all started with his experience picking morels on the mountains of Canada. See the story and travel along on October 19.
60 Minutes: Saving Italian History
The idea of traveling to Italy probably evokes the prospect of art and architecture. But some of that country’s national treasures are in bad shape, and the government does not have the resources to care for them.
Though it is a critical moment for some of Italy’s beloved icons, a local industry is pitching in. The Italian fashion industry is on a mission to do whatever it takes to maintain these magnificent monuments.
