Today Show: Hollywood Audition Tapes Up For Auction

Move buffs will rejoice. Three retired casting directors are putting up 54 audition tapes from some of the biggest movies in Hollywood. The auction is April 5 and 6 in Beverly Hills. The casting directors wish to remain anonymous, but they made some of the biggest stars in Hollywood.

In this auction we have an audition tape from The Outsiders TV series. A very young Leo Dicaprio auditioned for the role of Pony Boy. Although he didn’t win the part, he did get a small part in the pilot.

Three of Hollywood’s A-List men auditioned for Back Draft in 1991. The part went to Billy Baldwin, but Robert Downey Jr. had two auditions for the part. Also in the collection are Brad Pitt and Keanu Reeves’ auditions for the role.

Today Show: Jurassic Park Audition Tapes

Blockbuster Jurassic Park had two other women fighting over the role of Dr Ellie Sattler. Gwyneth Paltrow and Helen Hunt’s audition tapes could pull in thousands of dollars. Nothing like this has ever been auctioned before, so it is hard to tell.

The auditions for the leads in The Sure Thing and A Beautiful Mind are also in the collection. John Cusack, Jennifer Connelly and Russell Crow took home their parts and now you can take home their audition tapes.

My favorite piece of the collection is a Nicole Kidman audition tape for ShatteredShe was passionate and wept during the audition, proving to me that her tears are always real on screen. She was offered the role in the film, but turned it down to star in a film with Tom Cruise.

Today Show: Weekend Box Office Premieres

This weekend at the box office you can catch G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Stephenie Meyer’s The Host and The Place Beyond the Pines.

G.I. Joe is a sequel to Channing Tatum’s film, but Channing doesn’t have a big part in this new film. It made $11 million when it premiered on Thursday.

The Host is about aliens possessing humans and a love triangle. I couldn’t get through the first part of this novel by Stephenie Meyer, so I have little hope for the film. It’s casted wonderfully, so maybe it will do well. I’ll be waiting for the Redbox release.

The Place Beyond the Pines stars Bradley Cooper and Ryan Gosling. I really don’t need to know anything else about this film. Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper? I want to go to there.
