Today Show: The Pistol Annies “Annie Up” Review
Composed of Ashley Monroe (“Hippie Annie”), Angelina Presley (“Holler Annie”), and Miranda Lambert (“Lone Star Annie”), the Pistol Annies are one of the hottest names in country music right now. Their latest album, titled Annie Up, is already getting great reception. The group will be going on tour this year.
The story of how the band got together isn’t exactly romantic, but the pure normality of it all makes it a little humorous. Ashley and Angelina had written a little bit of music in Nashville, and decided to call on of Ashley’s long-time friends, Miranda, up to see if she wanted to be in a girl band. Just like that, the Pistol Annies were born.
Miranda maintains a solo career while being in this group, and when she was asked how she is able to handle it all, Miranda succinctly answered, “We drink a lot,” to much laughter.
Today Show: The Pistol Annies “Hush Hush”
Well, they’re no Psy when it comes to performance, but the group certainly had a Southern-belle feel to their performance. Featuring the soft pink, blue, and yellow lights that populate the sets of many country rocks acts, the whole thing just felt distinctly ragtime. I’m not sure if it was the lack of space or the lack of a crowd to cheer them on, but despite the feel, it really didn’t have a whole lot of energy. They just kind of stood still and sung, with a little moving added in here and there. Like I said, though, there was no audience and the small stage probably kept the girls from really cutting loose.
