Today Show: Blake Shelton Based on a True Story Review & Performance

Today Show: Blake Shelton The Voice Review

Just as Carson Daly predicted yesterday, the premiere episode of The Voice was one of the best episodes of any season and Blake Shelton stopped by the Today Show to talk about what it was like hearing the singers for the first time.

Shelton said his favorite part of the entire episode was the opening performance by all the coaches. Usher was on the bass guitar, while Adam Levine played the drums and Shakira had an amazing harmonica solo that no one saw coming. Shelton said they all love doing the opening act because the producers leave it up to them to figure out what they will perform, how they will perform it and anything involved with the opening performance.

Today Show: Judith Hill Amazes Coaches On The Voice

Shelton said one of the most spectacular performances of the night came from Judith Hill, a former Michael Jackson backup singer who said the industry was looking at her to perform more but she didn’t feel right about exploiting the death of Jackson. She waited a few years and now she is using The Voice as her opportunity to make it in the entertainment business.

Today Show: Danielle Bradberry On Team Blake Shelton

One of the singers Blake Shelton convinced to be on his team was the 16-year-old country singer from Texas, Danielle Bradberry, who wowed the coaches when she sang a Taylor Swift song. Shelton said he checked iTunes later that day and Bradberry’s version of the song was flying up the charts.

“It is hard to resell a Taylor Swift song,” Shelton said. “It is a testament to how talented everyone is.”

Today Show: Blake Shelton Based On a True Story Review

Blake Shelton released his eight studio album, Based on a True Story, earlier this week and the Today Show was one of the first places he played the single from the album for a national TV audience.

The Today Show pointed out this not your typical country album about lost love and heartbreak. But Shelton said he wanted it that way. He wanted the album to be about the moment. He wanted to sing songs about the journeys he has been through. Every song on the album is about a moment in his life, which is the reason he titled the album Based on a True Story.

Blake Shelton played his brand of country music for the Today Show by singing his new song “Sure Be Cool If You Did.” You can see more Blake Shelton by tuning in to The Voice March 26 2013, or by getting tickets to his next tour, The Ten Times Crazier Tour.
