Today Show: Usher Added To The Voice Coaching Panel
The Voice is switching up the coaching panel for their season four premiere with Shakira and Usher being added to the lineup. To learn more about one of the new coaches, Matt Lauer walked over to the NBC Experience Store to talk with Usher about why he wanted to become a coach on The Voice.
Usher said the major reason he took the job as a coach on The Voice was because he knows how to identify talent and he knows how to be a mentor to young singers. He can use his life experiences to point them in the right direction and help them make it in the entertainment business.
The one bit of advice he is hoping to teach everyone on the show is that being able to dance is great but it is the voice that will make their careers last forever.
Today Show: Usher vs The Voice Coaches
Not only does Usher have to find the best voice on the show, he also has to convince that person to be on his team. Competing with the other judges to get a particular singer on his team takes some smooth talking and a bit of competitiveness, according to Usher.
Matt Lauer asked Usher to pretend he was trying to convince Lauer to be on his team. Usher said the first thing he wants to do is let the singer know they did an excellent job followed by some words of advice on getting the best coach. In his own words, he said he would probably tell them to “rock with best.”
But Usher knows it is going to be a learning experience for him throughout the show. He said he is continually learning in the entertainment business and he wants to pass along the knowledge he has to the next big stars in music.
Today Show: Carson Daly Hosting The Voice
Carson Daly is the host of The Voice and he stopped by the Today Show for a second to talk about why the producers picked Usher to fill the vacant coaching spot on the show. He said they wanted someone who could help develop a young singer and they knew Usher was the person to do it. He said it didn’t hurt that Usher was a fan of the show as well.
“The best episode we have ever had is tonight,” Daly said.
You can see the season four premiere of The Voice tonight on NBC. If you miss any of the episode, you can also watch an encore performance of the show March 26 2013 on NBC.
