Today Show: The Haney Project With Michael Phelps Review
Michael Phelps stopped by the Today Show to talk about the new sport he is trying to conquer. Phelps said he is liking the retired life, although he has been living out of a suitcase, but at least he gets to play golf all the time. Phelps is the newest celebrity on the Golf Channel’s The Haney Project, a show were Hank Haney, the world’s top golf instructor, takes some of the most famous people in the world and teaches them how to golf, no matter what their skill level is.
Phelps said the show has been brutal and frustrating, something viewers will be able to see when the season premieres February 25 2013. But he said it wasn’t all bad. He liked playing on some of the best golf courses in the world, even if he did get booed once.
So what made the Olympian turn his back on retirement and try to learn how to play world-class professional golf? Phelps said he loved playing golf when he was a kid. He almost gave up swimming to start playing golf more often when he was younger. “Turned out sticking with swimming was a better plan,” Phelps joked. He and Matt Lauer also took a few putts outside the studio, and they are both pretty good. Both of them sunk a few putts.
