Today Show: Seth Meyers Taking Over Late Night

Seth Meyers‘ 12-year run with Saturday Night Live will be ending next February when he leave to take over Late Night. Jimmy Fallon is leaving that post to take over the Tonight Show, and Meyers has been elected to take the spot. Being on Saturday Night Live‘s Weekend Update, a position Jimmy himself was in before moving to late night, Seth Meyers feel as if he’s been prepared for the spot on Late Night because it has taught him to speak on topical information and how to speak with more colorful personalities thanks to the guests that come through.

Over the next eight or so months, Seth Meyers has the task of deciding what he wants the show to be. He doesn’t exactly have a game plan yet, but he feels like it will be something where he learns a lot of things that he never thought to ask about. Despite the modesty, however, Jimmy Fallon told Matt Lauer not long along ago that he is already making plans to take over the Tonight Show as well.

Becoming the host of Late Night was never exactly Seth Meyers’ dream. His childhood dream has already come true by being on Saturday Night Live. He is excited by the prospect of working in the same building together though. Though Jimmy Fallon and Seth will not be on the same floor doing their shows, they will be in the same building.

It’s no secret how crazy the schedule is for Saturday Night Live. They write the shows starting on Tuesday night and don’t get a lot of sleep. Seth Meyers is thinking that perhaps this show will be a little easier on his schedule. Just in case, though, Seth Meyers will be taking a vacation between now and then. Since Seth is not emotionally ready to be done with Saturday Night Live, he does plan to do the Update starting in the fall and continuing through until her takes over for Jimmy Fallon on Late Night in February.
