Today Show: Janelle Arthur American Idol
The Today Show talked to Janelle Arthur, the first woman on this season’s top 10 of American Idol to be eliminated. If you haven’t been watching the show, it’s pretty much been clear since the top 10 were first chosen (and maybe even from the time the top 20 were chosen) that either Kree, Candace, Angie, Amber or Janelle would win the competition. All of the guys were good (except for the terrible and often out-of-key Lazaro, who stayed far longer than he should have), but these ladies just had a certain something the guys were lacking.
Even though Amber was in the bottom two a lot during the weeks leading up to last week’s American Idol, somehow it was Kree and Janelle in the bottom two. Personally, I was shocked by that turn of events, because while the others are all great, Kree and Janelle are both my favorites.
But America chose and they chose Janelle Arthur. She sang for the save and didn’t get it. But she’s still in good spirits. Ryan Seacrest was a guest co-host on Today, and he and the rest of the anchors all spoke to Janelle about her loss.
Today Show: Janelle Arthur Bottom Two
Janelle Arthur said she thought it was going to be her that was going home when she was in the bottom two, so she told Kree not to worry as they awaited the results. The judges weren’t crazy about her performance of Dolly Parton’s “Dumb Blonde.” But Janelle said she loved being able to do her own arrangement and she did the song with the hopes that she could show the audience exactly what she could do to make something more current. But Dolly Parton liked the song. She wrote Janelle a message, which was shown on the show.
Today Show: Janelle Arthur Cowboy Boots
Janelle Arthur has also become known for her cowboy boots. She said she only had one pair when the show began, but now she has eight or nine. Al Roker presented her with a pair of cowboy boots. Janelle Arthur seemed genuinely touched by the gift and thanked them several times. I think that has always been a huge reason Janelle Arthur stayed in the game for as long as she did. She has a genuine personality that really speaks to people. Unlike the often-showy and sometimes Broadway-esque Angie, who stares right into the camera when she performs, even if she’s playing on the piano and has to turn her head completely away from it in order to stare intently at us.
Anyway, seeing Janelle Arthur outside of American Idol was actually really nice. I think that fans need to remember that just because she lost the competition, it doesn’t mean she won’t have a career after this. Janelle Arthur is still going places. And she’ll be going there in cowboy boots.
