Today Show: J.J. Abrams Built Spaceship For Star Trek Into Darkness
If having a convincing set really does help actors play their parts a little better, then the cast of the upcoming Star Trek Into Darkness should put on the best performances of their career. With a lot of movies, J.J. thinks that the audience of a movie knows when it is all filmed on a green screen. It just feels fake. With Star Trek Into Darkness, Abrams wanted to make the film not only look as real as possible, but feel that way for the actors to so that their performances could be as naturalistic as possible.
Star Trek Into Darkness Preview
Star Trek Into Darkness appears to be taking on a slightly darker tone than the first film’s high-adventure vibe. J.J. spoke to the Today Show about how the film is about a group of people that have become family being tested to see just how far they will go to protect the ones they love in times of serious strife. Despite the dire stage he set for the narrative, Abrams did go on to describe the movie as a “pretty harrowing, crazy, big, fun action adventure.”
Today Show: J.J. Abrams Taking Over Star Wars
With the rights to George Lucas’ Star Wars film franchise being auctioned off to Disney, J.J. Abrams has been selected to take on directing duties for any future Star Wars films. Rather than look at the undertaking as an intimidating venture, Abrams chose to look at it as a thrill. In fact, J.J. liked Star Wars before he ever liked Star Trek growing up as a kid, only coming to love the latter later on.
J.J. Abrams couldn’t give any definitive dates, but he did mention that Disney was looking to have the next Star Wars movie out by 2015…err…2115.
Star Trek Into Darkness opens in theaters and IMax 3D nationwide Thursday, May 16 2013.
