Today Show: Christina Milian & The Voice’s New Judges

Al Roker spoke with fellow NBC show The Voice’s social media correspondent and singer, Christina Milian, about the shows two new judges, Shakira and Usher. The duo have taken the show’s signature rotating chairs from Christina Aguilera and Cee-Lo Green, as those two original judges temporarily left the show to pursue other opportunities after three seasons.

When asked how the new judges are adapting to The Voice and how they’re melding with the show’s two other judges, Milian admitted it’s going well.

“It’s a lot more fun. Not to say Christina and Cee-Lo weren’t fun; they were tons of fun. I just love the way Shakira and Usher just fit in instantaneously with Blake [Shelton], with Adam [Levine],” she said.

Shakira and Usher have found their own roles as judges on the show, too. Milan praised Shakira’s “paying” attitude and strength as the lone woman judge and said Usher’s cool energy gets audiences amped.

Today Show: Christina Milian The Voice Judge?

Christina Milian is no stranger to the music scene and what it takes to make it in the industry. Best known for her No. 5 hit, “Dip It Low,” and the 2001 song “AM to PM,” Milian was a successful R&B singer in the early 2000s, even earning two Grammy nominations in 2005.

Milian told Roker that had the opportunity arisen when she was a budding artist, she certainly would have liked to take a turn as a Voice judge.

“Doing a show like this, there’s millions of viewers. People are really, really gravitating toward this show. As a young artist, if I was starting all over again, I would totally audition for The Voice,” she said.

Starting Monday, The Voice will go into the 24 rounds of battleground competition, where two singers from the same team will sing the same song. Their respective coach will then have to pick one of the two contestants to move onto the next round and continue coaching.

Though The Voice is still in its early stages, Roker poked around to find out which contestant is Milian’s favorite, and she has a pick: Team Usher’s Taylor Beckham. Milian described the 17-year-old as a gem in the rough, who is innocent, has a beautiful voice and is willing to learn.
